Welcome Chalk Hill Wines, McLaren Vale

Chalk Hill is a family owned wine company that has been growing grapes and making wine in the McLaren Vale wine district since 1964. Brothers Jock and Tom Harvey are the third generation of the family to manage the Estate owned vineyards that were first planted in the 1890's.

 

 




 

 

Jock Harvey

Jock Harvey was born into the wine industry and grew up amongst the grape vines in Willunga. Jock has a Bachelor or Agricultural Science from the University of Adelaide (Waite Campus), and has been involved in every aspect of viticulture and wine making both in Australia and the United States. Additionally he has undertaken study tours of the wine regions across Continental Europe, South America and New Zealand.

Whilst he oversees the grape production of Chalk Hill's Vineyards, he also works as a consultant viticulturist providing advice and vineyard management to around 700 acres of vineyards in the McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills wine regions.

In addition, Jock holds the Chair of the McLaren Vale Grape Wine and Tourism Committee, Board Member of Winegrapes Australia, is a member of the Vine Improvement Society and features on the McLaren Vale tourism video.

Tom Harvey

Tom is responsible for the sales and marketing of Chalk Hill, and has a background in corporate management as a former State Manager of Bunnings hardware group and as a Policy Adviser to the South Australian Premier.

Tom's formal qualifications include Wine Marketing (Roseworthy Campus, University of Adelaide) and Bachelor of Business (University of South Australia). Tom is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

His wine industry experience stems from growing up on the family vineyard and continued through six vintages in the Barossa (Richmond Grove) McLaren Vale (Hardy's Tintara) and Oregon, USA (Argyle Winery).
