Vineyard Notes

The natural acidity and intense colour of this grape variety is intensified by the vineyard location. Our Barbera is planted at the very top of Chalk Hill in shallow ironstone sand. This location allows for the production of small berries with great depth of flavour and velvety tannins

Winemakers Notes

Barbera is an amazing variety that offers great natural fruit balance combined with soft textured tannins. Due  to these traits this wine is aged gently in large old oak vats.  The leisurely maturation softens and enhances the flavours of this wine

Food Pairing

During the winter months a slow cooked osso buco would nicely sit alongside our rich Barbera while in the summer months we suggest a country terrine de lapin (rabbit terrine) with fresh herbs and cornichons

Awards

Won a silver medal at the 2010 Decanter World Wine Awards

Review

"This is a juicy and pleasantly drinkable Barbera. The bouquet has deep-set black plum, blueberry and mixed spice aromas. The palate follows true to form, dense and flavoursome, with attractively integrated, finely structured tannins. Dark chocolate oak flavours are well-gauged and supportive of the fruit. The alcohol tucks in neatly and the acidity lingers in the long finish, keeping the wine balanced and poised"
